Hi Guys
We have been busy working and enjoying the Park. There are several trails to explore as well as numerous bird species to learn about. Additionally, we have been learning about our fellow co-workers and hosts.
Over the years, we have seen busy campgrounds, but this one wins hands down. The traffic is constant of Rvers coming and going. Many just stay one night while traveling, but many others stay several days. Our work schedule is Wednesday - Saturday and switch off with another host. Saturdays is shared between us and it seems to be working pretty well.
As can be seen above, the campground is nestled at the foot of these Sacramento mountains, part of the Lincoln National Forest and as a result, they provide protection against cold temperatures. We are at often 9 degrees warmer than the closest 3 towns. Including Alamogordo.
Lawson Trail leaves our campground, and leads you gradually into the mountain to a small water fall. Although is almost dry this time of year, a very small trickle was still evident:
As mentioned above, we managed to go out to dinner with a few hosts to a local BBQ restaurant:
Clockwise: Robert & Wendy; Richie (maint host and Eva took picture); Bob and Donna (our partners camp hosts); Rex seasonal staff.
During our last days off, we made it to White Sands National Park and Missile Test area. It is an unbelievable park. The sands are the remnants of a long ago ocean that kept this area under water millions of years ago:
The drive within the park continues for about 8 miles with numerous picnic and bathroom stop areas and a horse trailer stopping area. Hiking, sledding permitted anywhere along the route.
Finally, on our way back to town we passed the main entrance to Holloman Air Force Base as seen here from the highway and taken at highway speed. Kudos to our resident photographer for capturing this shot at 55mphs:
